Kinda Real Column: A State of Mind
By Kinda Adra Mugharbel, Staff Writer
Beirut, Lebanon − If someone keeps searching for something for a long time and does not find it, should s/he settle for something else or something less? Or should s/he keep searching even if s/he ends up with nothing?
Some people are lucky enough to find what they want without going through all the pain, but others would drain in their own misery for searching in vain.
Some say it is all in your own hands; others believe it is pure fate, but what is the real reason behind it? I guess we will never know. But the problem still persists; what shall these unfortunate people do?
If we settle with what is really not our aim, we will live ever miserably, but some say it is better than nothing. Maybe what we aim for is not what is good for us, and what is good is not exactly what we really want.
As you can see, I seem very puzzled by this idea because in my life, I had to settle with things that I do not want − as I did not succeed in getting what I really want. I preferred to have something instead of nothing, but sometimes I do regret it. I look at the people around and ask myself if any of them had to do the same thing. I look around and wonder if they are all happy and satisfied with their decisions. They seem content from a distance, but you can never know what the real truth is.
Well, I can keep asking all kinds of questions, and this struggle will never end, even when the fat lady sings. Therefore, I guess we should sop up the outcome of whatever decision we make and live with whatever we have selected to live in “happily” − or forever be miserable. It is really stupid to sob over what we decide to do and be bitter about things we did not do.
