Letter from a Lebanese Citizen
By Nadine Kawkabani, Contributing Writer
Beirut, Lebanon - Here is a message from a Lebanese citizen living abroad. Give us a safe secure country, and we will fulfill our Lebanese duties from abroad; we will help in building again and developing the country as we always did.
Suleiman Frangie: Face it, and step aside. People chose not to reelect you for this term; the others are not elected either.
Fouad Sanioura: Instead of visiting Arab countries to get their support, start with people within your own country.
Aoun - Geagea: Remember the war and how many people died and the families that are suffering because of your mistakes. Start thinking of the well-being of your people and followers, not your power interests and egos.
Lahoud: Your country is falling apart. Take a leadership role, and dutifully engage your government in reconciliatory dialogue.
As for the others, think of the interests of the Lebanese people not the benefit of your own businesses (Hariri), your Iranian allies (Hezbollah), or your Syrian allies (Quamiwh).
Remember you are first and foremost Lebanese. Be proud of that fact, and respect your duties and obligations to your country. Shame on all of you for manipulating the feelings of the Lebanese people. If any of you is afraid of assassination, then the answer might be death is worth it. Many innocent died due to your interests. Dare to believe in concrete realistic solutions.
Why don’t we have two blocs: one for and the other against the government - not anti government and anti anti government with Hezbollah, Aoun, Frangie, qawmieh, Sanioura, Geagea, Jumblatt, Kataeb divisions. We have experienced thirty years of carnage, and shame on anyone that believes this is actually a winning game. It is about time we leave some space for democracy and true dialogue. For the first time in our history, we do not or almost do not have (chebaa farms) Israeli or Syrian presence on our territories. Let Lebanon be for its own mothers, sons daughters and fathers. Give us stability and the choice to go home and work without worries of personal safety.
All people had their wars, and most of them reached a tiresome point of killing. But all starts with people. Shame on the Lebanese populace that stands for different principals every six months because a figurehead changed positions for the sake of self-interest. It is about time Lebanese people start believing in their freedom and democracy, their right to change and do the change; it is about time to start believing in principals instead of feudal heads and fanatics. Make the changes you truly believe in, and vote your conscience. We reached a point where we might be losing again.
