What Happened to Individuality?
By Wael Al Fatayri, Staff Writer
Beirut, Lebanon - In the last decades, women have been fighting for what they have always referred to as “EQUALITY”, and asking for their rights as the other “half” of humanity. I admit that they were deprived of their rights. However, we can all agree that now women in most countries are practicing their rights and taking a notable part in society. But what I don’t understand is why they keep asking for more? Why are they still using gender as a classification? Wake up women, the time of gender categorization has ended.
Lately, I have been talking to some female friends of mine. Surprisingly, they all think that women are much more superior to men. Phrases like “we can give life” and “we can work and raise children simultaneously”, always face me in my “one-sided” discussion. Well first of all, life is only given by the Almighty. God empowered Eve with the gift of birth. Should we brag about what God has given us? So what if men can not experience pregnancy. Does that make us less imperative? After all, without our sperm, no fetus can form. Is all our sacrifice and hard work so insignificant that we can in no way be in the league of women?
Starting from the beginning of life, Eve led to the descent of humanity from paradise. We don’t see men blaming women for that, do we? We had to go this low. A dear friend of mine describes men as being ‘irresponsible’ and ‘childish’. To her, Earth can do just fine without men. Let’s take a second and imagine a world without males. I don’t think so.
A normal family has a working dad and a raising mother. To many females, this is degrading. They think that motherhood undermines the significance of women. Motherhood is Divine. Unfortunately, some women think that raising children and taking care of the house is an insult. It is sad to see that the most sacred jobs of civilization turn out to be the most offensive, to some.
This matter can go on forever, but only one thing is for sure: Men and Women are equal. Apples and oranges can’t be compared and yet none of which is more important. It’s the individual that counts. But it seems we’re knocking on empty houses. So fellow brothers, bear with me for we will watch our halves admitting that we’re equal.
